PATHS2 outcome level results provide evidence that the project strategy — linking governance, service delivery, health system strengthening, reinforcing community accountability and informed citizens — continues to generate real health service benefits. The proportion of women making 4 antenatal visits has risen sharply from the 2009 baseline, with all states significantly surpassing their milestone for Year 4 except for Enugu State. There were 842,494 ANC4 visits reported across the five States versus the 674,464 anticipated. Similar gains were seen with facility-based delivery in the three northern States (Jigawa, Kaduna and Kano – 210,484 facility deliveries reported versus 99,305 planned). These increases are a culmination of PATHS2 efforts to increase State capacity to manage and deliver quality health services.
